Any DIY brides?
What is D I Y?

Do it yourself?

I do silk floral arrangements for a hobby but I do

them very well...want help?
Reply:My flowers are silks; I've already made the bouquets and boutanniers. The trick is to wrap each stem to only one other with the floral tape and build them gradually. Trying to tape several stems at once will allow them to shift and you won't get what you pictured in your head.

My centerpieces are going to be floral, but you could always use the old standards of candles, mirrors, etc. I've also read of people using large hurricane vases filled with round balls in their colors. I imagine you could do some really cool stuff with styrofoam, paint, and glitter. You could wind ribbon around the balls, or fill in the gaps with colored tissue paper.

Cake, okay, I'm really excited about my cake. I'm not making it myself, but I'm stacking the tiers myself. You can email me if you need to know how, but the instructions on the Wilton cake decorating website will probably be much more helpful.

By stacking the tiers myself, I can just buy the cakes from my supermarket bakery at regular price. I'm going to save a ton of money! I've actually decided to go with filled sheet cakes instead of round cakes (I figure if people can have square cakes, why not rectangle?). The bottom layer will be a half sheet, the middle layer a quarter sheet, and the top layer an eighth sheet. I'm going to order the cakes without an icing border around the top, so they'll look right, and if any of the cake board shows, I'll just fill in the gaps with some silk flower heads. The whole thing is only going to cost about $55.00, and everyone will be able to get a normal-sized slice of cake, not the little two-inch bite that's the typical wedding cake slice size.

Good luck with your wedding!
Reply:Our colors were navy blue and silver and our theme was starry night. I took navy blue watermarked fabric and stamped silver glitter stars on the fabric. We used that as the base, put votive candles around three miniatured potted rose bush. Some tables had two yellow and one white others had two white and one yellow. The candle light reflected off of the stars on the fabric and the silver stars scattered around the outer edge of the fabric. It was a gorgeous centerpiece. At the end of the reception, anyone that wanted to take a miniature rose bush home could.
Reply:I did most of my wedding myself.

I bought white ostrich plumes and made fabulous feather centerpieces with tall silver tapered vases.

I got the feathers from http://www.featherplace.com/

and the vases I got from a floral wholesaler that my friend could purchase from. But there are many sites that sell very similar vases. Here's one:

Below those were small, low bundles of red or white roses in mirrored containers.

I put black tassels on the tips of about 10 feathers per centerpiece. It was just a nice touch.

after i was all done, i sold the feathers and containers on craigslist and recoup'd about 2/3 of my costs.
Reply:I'm only going to have bouquets %26amp; boutenierres and I honestly think I am going to opt to have them done by a florist.

You can make ordinary cakes yourself and they'll be fine. I honestly, wouldn't try stacking them myself. This is another point I'm not skimping on and hiring a pro.

Non-Floral centerpieces ... I can help you here!

CANDLES! They are relatively cheap and can be dressed up easily.

From a tealight in the paper bag coordinated with your wedding colors to candleabras. You can do alot with candles!

My venue doesn't allow exposed candles. My wedding is on Halloween. So I'm buying the glass pumpkins from this site - http://www.yessupplyco.com/products/jars... - and putting votive candles (in my wedding colors) inside.

For a short time I considered putting the cute fall-wrapped snickers candies in there (and making them a give-away) til' I realized I am having kids at the wedding and they would probably raid the candy jars and end up on a sugar high.

I am contemplating putting ribbon around the candy jars TO KEEP THEM CLOSED. But I'd be praying nobody opens them.

SO, I'm a bit undecided there.

However, that site seems to have really good prices on the glass items. Peek around, maybe something will work for you.

Reply:For flowers I'm probably going to buy cheap bouquets from the grocery store and make them myself...save $$ and you get what you want. Non floral center pieces....hurricanes with candles, framed photos of you and the hubby together, as well as growing up.... and instead of a cake, I'm doing a cupcake tree....a tree looking stand for cupcakes....easier and less time consuming than cutting a cake into a bunch of pieces. Much cheaper too!!!
Reply:Ooo I love clear vases with sand in them! I was at a restaurant the other day and they have sand and a candle, and it was so beautiful. Putting tall circlular vases togther with water in them..rocks at the bottom, a flower inside the water with a floating candle on top. Vines in a vase filled with sand. Pictures of you and your groom as babies- kind of cheesy, but can be done tastefully.
Reply:I am a diy bride. I can share my ideas with you. Center pieces were glass bowls with water %26amp; little drop of food coloring. Marbels in the bottom of the glass in side was a gold fish white gold fish.

Flowers were roses, tulips and leaves ( we got married in sept)
